Project 52 – Week 27: By a Nose

Happy Friday!

If you have not read one of my blogs before, this is a weekly blog circle for professional pet photographers. Each week we are given a theme, and we take photos of the theme. I usually use my puppy, Spud, but this week I can take advantage of most of my animals!

Noses are an important part of anatomy, and we don’t often stop and look at how unusual they can be.
My ferrets and cats have great noses, each one has a different pattern! When we photograph subjects that have noses, we often run in to the trouble of the camera focusing on the nose instead of the eyes, so it’s great to switch it up a bit – although, I did find that when you want to focus on the nose you get the eyes instead!

The ferrets are difficult to photograph, they don’t really stop moving and when you try and focus on such a small area it can take a few attempts!

First up is Ollie, I’ve had him for over 6 years, and I never tire of that sweet face. He has the plainest of noses, with just one little dot.

Then we have Big Jasper, Ollie’s son.

Then below, we have Little Jasper (already named Jasper when I got him!)

The last light coloured one, coming next is little Willow, she was an awful biter, and the day I went to pick her up in 2012, she dragged me down a tube by my finger! She’s really sweet now though unless she’s bored! She’s also the only one who I manage to catch in a ‘dead sleep’ some of you may have seen a video on Facebook posted by fellow ferret owner, (who does a great job rescuing, by the way!) of her ferret in a dead sleep.

Next we have Cole

And the last of the ferrets, Shadow

Back to the dogs! Spud being a lab x collie, has a very long nose, and the camera loves this! It does make him look a little scary though!

Did you know that every dogs nose is unique to them, just like our thumbprints?

Bailey, with 12 years of sniffing accomplished!

Prince, has a simple black nose

And Solero has a nose like the ferrets, complete with scratches.

I enjoyed gathering the animals together for this weeks theme, why don’t you have a nosy on over to the next blog by  Linda Perdue, VP Shoots Photography, serving the Tampa, Florida area  and see what sort of noses she got!
